Wroclaw: travel guide
Situata nella parte occidentale della Polonia, Wrocław è una delle città più affascinanti e sorprendenti del Paese. Spesso meno conosciuta rispetto a Cracovia o Varsavia, riesce però a conquistare chiunque la visiti grazie al suo mix perfetto di architettura colorata, atmosfera giovane e una storia complessa che si respira in ogni angolo.
Built on 12 islands and crossed by the Oder River, Wrocław is often called the “Polish Venice”. It is an ideal city for a weekend or as a stop on a longer itinerary in Poland — perfect, for example, to combine with Poznań, which I already told you about in the other article.
Rynek: the beating heart of the city
The starting point can only be the Rynek, one of the largest and most scenic medieval squares in Europe.
Here you will immediately be struck by the colorful houses and the imposing Wrocław Town Hall, one of the best preserved Gothic masterpieces on the continent.

Hunting for gnomes (Dwarfs)
One of the most fun experiences in Wrocław is looking for the famous bronze gnomes scattered around the city.
These small statues, born as a symbol of protest against the communist regime, today there are over 400 and represent one of the most iconic elements of the city.
Ostrów Tumski: the most romantic part
The oldest district of Wrocław is Ostrów Tumski, an island with timeless charm.
Here you will find:
- The splendid Cathedral of St. John the Baptist
- Gas streetlights manually lit every evening (yes, really!)

Racławice panorama: an immersive experience
If you want to add a different cultural stop than usual, visit the Racławice Panorama.
It is a huge circular work that tells of a historical Polish battle: a very suggestive immersive experience, even for those who are not passionate about history.
Centennial Hall and modern attractions
Among the most interesting architectures is the Centennial Hall, a UNESCO heritage site.
Nearby you will find:
- Multimedia fountain (ening shows in summer)

University of Wrocław and Aula Leopoldina
Don’t miss the University of Wrocław, in particular the spectacular Aula Leopoldina, one of the most beautiful baroque rooms in Europe.

Is Wrocław worth visiting?
Absolutely yes.
Wrocław is a surprising city: less inflated, more authentic and incredibly photogenic. Perfect for those who want to discover a different Poland, far from the most mainstream destinations but equally fascinating.
